Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2023 (Case of 6 × 750ml)
The Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is crafted from select Syrah parcels grown on the rocky, schist-rich soils of Porseleinberg (90%) and Goldmine (10%) farms in Swartland, near Riebeek-Kasteel. Following a wet winter and vigorous spring growth, the 2022 vintage ripened swiftly under intense summer heat, resulting in a compact harvest window. Hand-harvested grapes were naturally fermented in tulip-shaped concrete tanks using 65% whole-bunch clusters before ageing for up to 18 months in Austrian oak foudres and demi-muids. The wine reveals a brooding, complex nose of dark fruit, liquorice, venison, and tobacco, leading to an opulent palate of plums, cherries, and currants layered with pepper and spice. Elegant tannins, balanced acidity, and a silky mouthfeel culminate in a long, savoury finish that reflects both structure and finesse.
