Boekenhoutskloof Semillon 2023 (Case of 6 × 750ml)
The Franschhoek Semillon is crafted from Certified Heritage Vineyards—some of South Africa’s oldest—planted between 1902 and 1942, with deep-rooted, unirrigated bush vines thriving in alluvial and decomposed granite soils. A small portion of Semillon Gris and historic Muscat d’Alexandrie adds aromatic depth and complexity. Benefiting from the cool, wet 2021 growing season, the grapes ripened slowly, producing a wine of purity and minerality. Whole-bunch pressed and naturally fermented in barriques and concrete eggs, the wine matured for 14 months—70% in French oak and 30% in concrete—with a small Muscat portion aged in clay amphora. The result is a pale straw-coloured, elegantly textured wine with aromas of melon, acacia, kumquat, and ginger, leading to flavours of pear, quince, and lemon, balanced by fresh acidity and a saline, subtly spicy finish.
